    Windows Vista/XP operating systems have built-in clients for interaction with WebDAV. Though NetDrive provides a very convenient way to map a remote WebDAV folder, it’s not a must.

    I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit build 7600 with all available updates installed. From these comments I would say yes Unchecking "Automatically detect settings" as described above instantly made my SharePoint WebDAV over SSL (Explorer View) more responsive.
